As Sukkot Celebration Ends, Israel Turns Eyes Toward Iran Once Again
The weeklong celebration of Sukkot is coming to an end tonight. Across Israel, the booths built in honor of this special event are being taken apart. But life is not going back to “normal” tomorrow. Instead Israeli eyes are once again focused on Iran and the threat of nuclear war following new Iranian President Rouhani's speech at the United Nations yesterday.

In a marked departure from his predecessor, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Hassan Rouhani has gone out of his way to present a smiling face to the US and the Western world. Unlike Ahmadinejad, he does not publicly deny the Holocaust (although he won't state that it happened either), nor has he repeated the calls for Israel to be wiped off the map. A former Obama advisor once summed up the Iranian leader's appeal for lifting sanctions on his nation as: “We're nice guys with a nice smile, and we're not Ahmadinejad.”

It would be a tragic mistake for the world to fall for this false face. The Iranian regime has not changed. The mullahs of Tehran still hate Israel and want to see the Jewish state destroyed. The centrifuges in Iran's illegal nuclear processing facilities are still spinning. Rouhani is exactly what my old friend Prime Minister Netanyahu called him—a “wolf in sheep's clothing.”

If the Obama Administration falls for this false hand of friendship, the Jewish People will pay a heavy price. Iran is continuing to rush full speed ahead toward the “red line” that marks the point of no return for them acquiring nuclear weapons; Israel cannot allow that to happen. If the rest of the world refuses to act, then the Jewish state will have no choice but to do so themselves, despite the horrible consequences that will follow an outbreak of war.

The threat to Israel has not diminished, and this means that our support of the Jewish People must not diminish. We have a great opportunity today to show true Christian love in the nation of Israel. That is why your support of the Jerusalem Prayer Team today is so important.
Your ambassador to Jerusalem,

Dr. Michael Evans
