                                     ============================

Day 16 begins at Sundown Tuesday

2 Sam 21:14
God responded to the plea for the land.
After David took care of the broken treaty with the Gibeonites.

Stephen and others could probably connect the dots better than I can, so I welcome comments here or elsewhere to broaden this theme out.

I believe the seven sons of Saul are more than just a detail dropped into a historic account. There is a purpose to their number being mentioned, and a purpose for mentioning the time of year that this took place, this is also of great interest to me...

The gallows must have been erected with the forethought for all seven to be hung simultaneously. As the Scripture records "they all fell at the same time." Scripture goes on to add, this was "at the time of the beginning of the barley harvest," that places this event within a few days of Passover?

Biblically, on the first day of the week (Sunday) following the weekly Sabbath (Saturday) that falls during the feast of unleavened bread, the first fruits of the barley harvest were to be waved by the priest before God.

This must be done before any more barley could be harvested. Jesus rose from the dead on the first day of the week, after the sabbath showing himself to be not only the Passover lamb, in his death (at the appointed hour), but also the first fruits by appearing in the heavenly court before the Father at the appointed time for the barley first fruits.

During the 14 days leading up to Passover all of Israel would be in the process of removing all the leaven from their houses. There were seven days to the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Was God purging leaven from Israel as He was healing the land from the covenant broken by Saul.

Are the seven sons of Saul not then some kind of prophetic sign to Israel and to King David that foreshadowed Christ Himself being the complete sacrifice (seven means complete). He also was hung on a tree on Passover.
He was given by Father to satisfy the judgement of a covenant broken many years before in the garden and broken again and again though the sins of every man and woman who sprung from the loins of Adam. If he was born of a woman, born under the law, wouldn't that make Jesus a complete "son of Saul"?

He was "Born of a woman born under the law," Jesus was a son of the law (Saul) who was given as the "complete sacrifice", for all broken covenants to end the famine of the Word. Jesus ended the 400 yrs.* of famine of the Word. By becoming flesh and dwelling among us.

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14.

God responded when Jesus took care of the broken Adamic covenant with God.

*Our nation that is also experiencing a famine of the word, our 'kings' have broken 400 covenants with the native nations. I believe we need to see Jesus' completed work on the cross, applied to this country, breaking the famine of the Word in America, and ending the curse.

Saul is a type of the law, the first covenant brought only death, it pointed out our inability to fulfill the law.
In contrast David, is a type of Christ introducing elements of the New Covenant before its time had fully come. The tabernacle of David, the 24/7 worship and intimacy with the Holy One without the veil!  No veil...no outer court?

During the time of the tabernacle of David. It could be said that we all with unveiled face have beheld His Glory... His presence hovering over the mercy seat in the tabernacle of David.  That is our privilege in the new covenant.

Whereas in the tabernacle of Moses there was a thick veil that hid us from the face of God. Only the High Priest (a type of Jesus) could enter in, and then only once a year, on the Day of Atonement (September 14th this year)

This veil protected men from dying under the first covenant, because of the severity of the law, it brought only death, death to men and death to animals, endless sacrifice, animals being used as a substitute to cover sin for men.

But in Christ, slipping behind the veil is life eternal and full of glory, because He can remove sin from our nature.

I will take out the stony heart from them and give them a heart of flesh. And I will write my laws upon their hearts.
In the new covenant we can enter boldly behind the veil, and when we do we experience only the new life, because Jesus has triumphed over death.

A spontaneous song - received on April 15, 2012

There hung a veil in the Holy Temple
It hid the face of God
The High Priest could go but once a year
and slip behind the veil

The Son of Man came to earth
To reveal the face of God
and Father reached down and torn the veil
So we could enter in

And there is Glory behind the veil
where we meet Him face to face
Where the Presence of the Lord is, there is liberty
If we'll slip behind the veil, my friends...
Let's slip behind the veil
