                                     ============================
Day 10 - begins Wednesday Evening

In this present call to 40 days of repentance and turning to the Lord we are being challenged to get beyond ourselves and respond to the things on God's heart, giving attention to all that He says is important to Him.
In these days of self help themes in Christianity where we are just trying to get our life fixed, repentance is a foreign concept to most.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." Proverbs 9.10

    Everything that I've tried to fix about my life has usually ended up in disaster.
The more I try to pull myself up by the boot straps and get it together the worse it seems to get.
It's only when I surrender to whatever God wants to do (and usually I have no idea at the time), that things begin to change and the change is God breathed from the inside out.

The more we try to fix the temporal problems without regard to the eternal nature of things the more we seem to spin our wheels and end up right back at the same spot, confronted with the same issues.

"Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance." Romans 2.4

    Repentance is a change or alteration of mind, change of mind from evil to good or from worse to better.
In the NT it is used in reference to the mind as the faculty of moral reflection. The only way we can change our mind from evil to good is if God is involved because we are all born into sin and "the thoughts of his (our) heart was only evil continually" Genesis 6.5.

I have a top three to five things that I really want to see changed but I know if I set out on my own agenda there will be very little if any fruit of lasting value. The challenge is to open up the heart to God and let Him do what He does best. It's only in the times of intimate encounter with the Lord that we get really changed and then miraculously things begin to change around us. Can we commit to try not to figure it all out before we jump in but trust that the God who loves us has it all under control?

    In this 40 days of repentance the goal is more focused on repentance for the past generations who have turned away from the Lord and committed many trespasses which we believe have imprisoned the population to many spiritual bondages. Let's not forget in the process that the Lord wants to bring tremendous growth in our individual lives as a by product of a much bigger mission, seeing spiritual awakening come to the region.

    It is our calling as intercessors to take responsibility for the sins of previous generations, stand in the gap before the Lord and cry out, asking for forgiveness and mercy on behalf of the land.

Both Daniel and Nehemiah among others practiced this principle of repentance on behalf of their nation. King David found himself in similar situations where the spiritual landscape was dried up and prayer was not being answered by the Lord. As he inquired of the Lord, God showed him what to do and the result was that "...then the Lord answered prayer on behalf of the land, and the plague on Israel was stopped." 2 Samuel 24.25

    I would exhort each of you to be lead by the Lord in these areas whether it be personal, regional or national repentance. The kindness of God leads us to repentance. What God is doing here in Southern Minnesota, He will do for you where ever you are, if you will seek Him and cry out for God ordained agendas and not your own.
