WHERE DID YOU GET THAT?

A friend asked me earlier today where I found the laws concerning Hebrew slaves that I had shared in a previous post.  Of course he knew I wasn't a Hebrew slave or even addressing Hebrew slaves per sey.

He knew I was presenting a spiritual corollary, to a biblical principle, originated by God himself. My topic was about a brother in servitude to a congregation or serving under another man's ministry.

The biblical locations are Exodus 21 and in Deuteronomy 15.
Here are those passages for your review.

“If you buy
a Hebrew slave, he (your brother) shall serve for six years; but on the seventh he (your brother) shall go out as a free man without payment.
Exodus 21:2

12 If your kinsman
(your brother), a Hebrew man or woman, is sold to you, then he (your brother) shall serve you six years, but in the seventh year you shall set him free.
But it goes on to say...
13 When you set him free, you shall not send him away empty-handed. 14 You shall furnish him liberally from your flock and from your threshing floor and from your wine vat; you shall give to him as the Lord your God has blessed you...
18 It shall not seem hard to you when you set him free, for he has given you six years with double the service of a hired man; so the Lord your God will bless you in whatever you do
Deuteronomy 15:12-14,18
In Genesis 31:29, 41

We see this principle played out in the life of Jacob who was serving Laban, seven years for Rachel, but then Laban changed the two girls one for the other and gave Jacob Leah instead. And he quickly offered Rachel as wife for another seven years of service. Jacob loved Rachel and so he agreed. Jacob tried to leave at the end of this seven years and again Laban talks him into staying with him another six years. But as the seventh year approaches again a third time God intervenes and speaks to Jacob, "Arise get up and go to your father's house."  Jacob left in the middle of the night and three days later Laban chased him until he caught up at the border of the land. An angel warns Laban to be careful how he deals with Jacob because Jacob belonged to God.
Laban speaks to Jacob
29 It is in my power to do you harm, but the God of your father spoke to me last night, saying, ‘Be careful that you speak to Jacob neither good nor bad.’
Jacob responds to Laban
41 Thus I have been in your house twenty years; I served you fourteen years for your two daughters, and six years for your flock, and you have changed my wages ten times. 42 Unless the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely now you would have sent me away empty-handed. God has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands, and rebuked you last night.”
