2 SECTS - 2 CALENDARS - 2 PASSOVERS

TWO SECTS - TWO CALENDARS - TWO PASSOVERS

Arguments for the Essenes being very familiar to Jesus.

  1. The Essene sect of the Jews accurately predicted that the Messiah (Jesus) would come at the correct time.
  2. There is also some evidence that Jesus grew up in an area where their teachings could have prevailed in the synagogues of Galilee and specifically in Nazareth.
  3. Some believe that the apostle John wrote his gospel specifically to the sect of the Essenes.
  4. Jesus initiated his "Lord's Supper" during the 'last supper' on the date and at the time of the 'Essenes' Passover.
  5. The Upper Room was located in an Essene sector of the city.

This 24 hr. difference in timing is noted in the Scriptures. And it answers the question...
How could Jesus both eat the Passover (legally) with his disciples on the night he was betrayed and still die at the appointed time (24 hours later as required by law) on the Day of Preparation to qualify as the official Passover lamb?

The Essenes' calendar was a solar calendar consisting of 12 months of 30 days followed by a 'Leap' week. It does not take into account the lunar cycles. The Year begins on the first Wednesday (Tuesday at sunset) after the Spring Equinox.

The months in the Essene calendar always start on a Tuesday evening at sunset which denotes the beginning of (Wednesday) the fourth day of the week. You may remember that on the fourth day of creation God created the Sun, the moon, and the stars which He set as signs for a calendar, seasons, days, and years.
Then God said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years;  and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so.
Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also. God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. So the evening and the morning were the fourth day. Genesis 1:14-19
Because on the Essenes calendar months always start on Wednesday (Tuesday at sunset) and ignore the New Moon cycles, therefore, Passover, Trumpets, and Tabernacles would all always land on subsequent Wednesdays (Tuesday evenings). Wave Sheaf and Pentecost would land on the first day of the week (Saturday at sunset).

If you followed all of that, then Jesus would have been betrayed and tried by the Sanhedrin during the night and crucified the following day on Wednesday afternoon at 3 pm. This answers the question... How could Jesus fulfill his own prophetic sign, "as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights so shall the Son of man be in the belly of the earth for three days and three nights?"

GOOD FRIDAY?
Some would have us believe He was only in the belly of the earth for 3 half days?
  • 5 PM Friday to Saturday 6 pm = 25 hours.
  • 6 PM Saturday - 5 AM Sunday = 11 hours
The result is only 3 half days (12 hrs.) a total of  = 36 hours
  • Sunset Friday to sunrise Saturday - night 1
  • Sunrise Saturday to sunset  Saturday - day 1
  • Sunset Saturday to sunrise Sunday - night 2
The result is only 1 Day and 2 Nights

GOOD WEDNESDAY?
If we look at the Essenes' calendar in 30 A.D. with the understanding that the biblical day runs Sundown to Sundown... Jesus instituted the Lord's Supper on the night He was betrayed (Tuesday night after sunset) and He was crucified on Wednesday morning at 9 AM giving up his spirit 6 hours later at 3 PM on Wednesday, then was placed in a sepulcher (in the belly of the earth) just before sunset on Wednesday. The following would constitute 3 days and 3 nights.
  • Wednesday sunset to Thursday sunset completes the first night and first day
  • Thursday sunset  to Friday sunset completes the second night and second day
  • Friday sunset to Saturday sunset completes the third night and third day
  • Jesus rose sometime Saturday night certainly before dawn on the first day of the week.
There is no other sign given, therefore this sign would prove to any doubters of either camp, that He was indeed their Messiah. He came at the precise time predicted by the Essenes that the Messiah would come and He followed all their laws regarding Passover as well as the laws of the Sanhedrin. And by doing so His observation of each Passover was a prophetic sign.
