TESHUVAH! - GRACE TO RETURN
I went to lunch with a friend today and he encouraged me to send out this post. If you don't mind, I will share what I am thinking about today as I get ready to observe Teshuvah.
Teshuvah (return) is a season to reflect and it starts at sundown today
(at the second sundown if you count the eclipse that happened at 1:05 PM CDT as the first sundown)

It begins 30 days just prior to the feast of Trumpets, 10 more days after Trumpets makes it a 40 day season of "returning" to the LORD. leading up to the celebration of the Day of Atonement (known as the Great and Terrible Day of the Lord.
"Don't just do something, stand there" - Henry Blackaby
In his books on Experiencing God, Henry Blackaby says that we need to find out what God is doing and then join Him in doing that thing.
According to the biblical calendar laid out by God Himself, God is granting grace (the empowerment to respond) for "returning".
What are you saying, David? That people have to wait until Teshuvah in order to return? No! Of course not. However, I believe there is a special (empowerment) resting on this time every year because God established it as a foreshadow of showering favor on whoever returns in the last days.
(Joel Chapters 2-3 "Whosoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved."
Remember, these days (ELUL) are the 'last days' of the old year they just precede the NEW YEAR declaration of Jesus coming to rule and reign. This coronation happens right after His wedding day to the Bride (on Rosh Hashanah) and the 7-day wedding feast.

The Day of Atonement is the 40th and last day of this "In season".
Isaiah 58 was written specifically about the Day of Atonement.
Please read it as preparation for the next 40 days. I think it will give you insight as to how to pray with the idea of the prodigals, the wayward sons and daughters of God.
Historically, it represented the midnight hour, the last day of grace, before the doors of heaven are shut by the angel of the LORD. Compared to the day Noah and his family entered into the ark and the rain began to fall. And God shut the door from the outside.
Isaiah 58 is saying what is important to GOD IN this season...
Maybe you are thinking, among me and all my friends there are no prodigals. Well maybe your fire is not burning with the zeal as at some earlier period in your life.
Revelation 2:2-5 says... Return (Teshuvah) to your first love...
2 “I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; 3 and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. 4 Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. 5 Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.
All of us need to return in some aspect to "full-on" allegiance to God and His Kingdom.
