13 Reasons Why Christians Should Stop - Dreaming of a 'White' Christmas!
The prophet Daniel foretold that this 4th World Empire Rome would attempt if it were possible to alter the ‘appointed times of the Lord' and even the ‘seasons’.
Some have argued for the Fall Feast of ‘Trumpets’ also known as Rosh Hashanah for Jesus' Birth. The lambs would not be 'watched in the fields by night' during the fall, only when the ewes are ready to cast their young in the Spring. Also, the fall feasts foreshadow His second coming as King, and the Feast of Trumpets is also the coronation day of the King.
I want to give some reasons why many believe it was the first day of the month of Abib (which literally means spring) also known by its Babylonian name Nisan.
Here are a baker’s dozen of things to consider.
- Jesus coming as the ‘Lamb of God’ should come during the ‘lambing' season which only happens in early Spring, Abib means Spring.
- Jesus was born in Bethlehem - a small region known for producing the sacrificial lambs used in the Temple.
- Jesus was wrapped in ‘swaddling cloths’* at birth just as a sacrificial lamb would be.
- Jesus was laid in a manger at birth just like a sacrificial lamb would be.
- Jesus was clothed in priestly garments at birth 'Swaddling cloths'* were made from the priests’ worn-out linen garments.
- Jesus was born in Bethlehem which means house of bread, in the same month as the Feast of Unleavened Bread, He was the bread of Heaven.
- Jesus, went into the Temple to discuss the Scriptures with the priests at the Feast of Passover, indicating that he turned 12 just before Passover.
- Jesus began His ministry just before Passover - at age 30 the legal age indicating that he was born just before Passover (30 years earlier)
- Jesus ultimately became the Passover Lamb, which was required to be a yearling (born at a previous Passover)
- Jesus came to remove leaven - “the Lamb of God which takes away the SIN of the world” -
- The Spring Feasts represent Salvation, they are Salvation feasts
- Jesus' Hebrew name ‘Yeshua’ means Salvation
- Jesus fulfills ‘First Fruits’ by becoming the first son of Adam to rise from death into Immortality.
*'Swaddling cloths' were strips of cloth taken from the priestly garments that had become too worn for priests to wear in the presence of God and so they were used to wrap newborn sacrificial lambs in Bethlehem. Jesus was set apart as the sacrifice and clothed as the future High Priest from His birth.
All of the Feasts of the Lord are Feasts of Thanksgiving unto God.
The Spring Feast(s) celebrate Salvation specifically
the Barley Harvest (overcomer) and Flax Harvest (Priesthood). The timing of all of this correlates to the ‘lambing season or the 'harvest' of lambs
(sacrifice) as well.
This Spring season of Passover, Unleavened Bread, and First Fruits corresponds to these three harvests.
So if we combine all three Spring harvests together, what is the
hidden message of First Fruits (Wave Sheaf) or Resurrection Sunday?
Lamb = Sacrifice - Jesus became the Passover Lamb, he was slain on the Day of Preparation at the exact hour.
Barley = Overcomer - Jesus overcame Death, Hell &
the Grave, He is the Incorruptible, Unleavened, Bread of Affliction, that came down from Heaven.
Flax = Priesthood - Jesus is our High Priest unto God
who ever makes intercession for us.
