07-25-2013 – How long will you Mourn for Saul  -
Fill your horn with oil and go anoint!

Chris H. had an unction to pray over each of us, specifically for our children to encounter God
Chris started by having the guys pray over me, naming my children one by one and then proceeded clockwise around the circle, doing the same thing for each man. I was seated already playing a chord progression softly on the guitar and I began to get words to a spontaneous song as the guys were praying over me. I began to sing it quietly, as they continued to pray over others. The Scripture the Lord gave me was out of 1 Samuel chapter 16, verses 1 12,13. David was the youngest the eighth son. Eight is the number of new beginnings.
“How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go; I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite. For I have provided Myself a king among his sons.”…v12 12 So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!”13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward.

This is how blessing grows from one generation to the next.

Eli was a priest
He no doubt, raised, blessed, and anointed Samuel. The priesthood had become corrupt under Eli’s sons, God had to judge them and He spoke His judgment against Eli and his sons from the lips of the young child Samuel…

Samuel was a priest and a prophet
Scripture says that God did not let any of his words fall to the ground. Samuel’s sons were also corrupt, but they did not die as Eli’s sons did.
In the passage below God commanded Samuel to go and anoint David. Notice what it says in verse 13… “the Spirit of the Lord came upon him…”
David was a prophet, priest, and king!
As a type of Christ, he is allowed to do things formerly prohibited. He offers a sacrifice by himself, something Saul was condemned for. He ate the shewbread, kept for only the priests and their sons. He placed the ark of the presence in the tabernacle of David, where he could go regularly and stand in the presence of the Lord, without the veil! David’s sons are also not all serving the Lord as we would wish. So all three of these men have issues with their sons, but God still used them and He dealt with their sons, in their generations.

A spontaneous song that came out of prayer and Samuel 16
Em         C            G
In your name we bless them
Em         C            G
In your name pour forth the oil
Em         C                         G                 C
We invoke the favor of the Lord Our God
G                        D
That they may seek you
G                        D
That they might know you
G                                          C                   D
So they might walk in the light of your love.

After we prayed for the children “the next generation” of each of the families represented there.

We called Tim W. into the center to pray a blessing over the leaders.  After a few prayed their blessing I told them I felt like we needed to sing this song as a prophetic act over Tim because it had come during the prayer time and it would be like a song of deliverance over the leadership of Covenant Family Church.

Followup Notes: During the following Sunday morning service at Covenant Family, Peggy got up and called out for the next generation. She had an altar call and they came and their parents came up and laid hands on them and prayed over them. This appears to be a direct confirmation of what we prayed the previous Thursday night.

At the end of David's sermon on Shekinah welcoming a person rather than a thing.  And David H.talked to the leaders about a blessing, an anointing that rests on their lives. A confirmation about the leadership needing to be blessed and anointed, invoking favor toward, and walking in the light of His love.

  1. Write the vision and make it plain that he who reads may run. Amazing how God is taking words from the past and breathing life on them for the exact moment we are now living. Thanks, David, for reminding us again.
