First the Natural, then the Spiritual
Chapter 2
Jesus turned the water into wine, (first the natural, water = natural) the servants poured water into earthen vessels (of the earth or natural) but what they drew out of the mouths of these earthen vessels was wine. (afterward the spiritual or supernatural).
Wine coming from water is not natural it is supernatural!
The Word became Flesh and dwelt among us - John 1
In the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him, nothing was made that has been made.
The Word became flesh (natural) and made His dwelling among us.
We have seen His glory, (supernatural) the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14
The Wedding at Cana - John 2
The cup of wine given to the governor of the feast was symbolic of the seal of the spiritual union (covenant) that uniquely takes place at a Christ-centered wedding.
Afterward the (supernatural or spiritual)
Jesus shared a similar cup of wine (after the Passover meal) representing His last pledge shared with His (betrothed bride) Church at the last supper, using the cup of Salvation. "This is my blood of the new covenant." That cup acted as the seal of His promise and parallels the traditional betrothal process, but it took on a new meaning in the relationship that Jesus established with all those who are born of the Spirit.)
John the Baptist baptized people with water for the remission of sins (first the natural) But He said of the Messiah...
There is one who comes after me who will baptize with the Spirit and with fire. (a supernatural occurrence)
Jesus' first miracle portrayed this Spiritual transition in a living parable at the wedding in Cana.
You Must be Born Again - John 3
Nicodemus came to Jesus in the night and Jesus laid out this spiritual reality.
v3 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
v5 - Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you unless one is born of water and (born of) the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Did you catch it?
Being born of water is equal to being born in the flesh, by natural childbirth of a woman and the outcome is a natural baby. What is born of the flesh is flesh... but what is born of the Spirit is spirit a supernatural birth when your spirit comes to life.
Born of the Spirit is the supernatural birth and executes the Spiritual adoption of Sons. What is born of the Spirit is spirit. This resurrection power will be fully displayed in the fulfillment of the Feast of Trumpets, a topic for another time.
John's baptism was by water = natural,
Jesus' baptism is of the Spirit = supernatural.
John baptizes in the Jordan River often a symbol of death in Scripture.
Jesus baptizes in the Holy Spirit the resurrection power of a new life.
- Next time we will discuss how the natural rituals of the Moedim must be translated into Spiritual supernatural proclamations in the New Covenant Church.
