THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER
Four hot dry months without a single Feast of the Lord!
There are four months without a single feast from The Feast of Shavuot, ('Weeks' or Pentecost) early in the third month until the 'Return' feasts of the seventh month.
If you have read any of my other posts about the Seven Feasts of the Lord you already know the Fall Feasts will be fulfilled by the Second coming of Christ or at Christ's return. And we can see this of course because looking back we can see that the Spring Feasts were fulfilled in great detail by Jesus during his first coming. The last Feast of Spring early in the third month celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit as another comforter, He will be with us right up until the return of Jesus the Christ some year at the Feast of Trumpets. So the Holy Spirit was sent to get us through the dog days of Summer!
These four months (3,4,5,6) can be applied to the prophetic timeline of the 2,000 years or (4 x 500-year 'months') of the Church Age a.k.a. the times of the Gentiles. Represented by the four months between the Arrival of the Holy Spirit fulfilling the Feast of Weeks (Pentecost) in the year 29/30 A.D. and the First Resurrection coming approximately 2,000 years later.
On the prophetic timeline, I believe we are currently in the season of Teshuvah the final 'Return' this correlates to the 'sixth month' of Elul on the annual Biblical calendar. I believe we have been prophetically in this 'sixth month', since Luther nailed his list to the Wittenberg door on October 31, 1517.
If we look back over the history of the Church Age we can see four distinct periods of time that correlate to the four 'months' on the biblical calendar. One month = approximately 490-500 years.
- The Apostles and Church Fathers finished out the Third 'month' of Spring following Pentecost-Shavuot. 29/30 A.D. until about 500 A.D.
- The Dark Ages lasted 1000 years from 500 A.D. until about 1500 A.D. making up the fourth and fifth months of the timeline. Roman Paganism became mixed with Christian precepts ushering in the Dark Ages. (3 x 490 =1,470 years + 29 =1,499)
- Luther's Reformation, in 1517 was about 18 years past the 490 years/10 Jubilees. However, there were many reformers before Luther. Wycliffe, and Tyndale both began putting the Scriptures back in the hands of the common man.
RETURN
This fourth month from Pentecost and the sixth month of the year is the month of Elul - and the first of Elul opens the door to a season called Teshuvah which literally means Return. I mentioned this last time but it takes a few times for people to grasp a new concept. So I repeat here it here as a reminder.
We see on the prophetic timeline the last of the summer months. Elul is represented on the prophetic timeline by the Great Reformation (1517-2017). As evident by a 'return' to the Bible, access to the Bible is given to the masses first in 1455 by the invention of the Guttenberg press. Although the Bible was becoming more accessible as early as 1384 A.D. with Wycliffe's partial translation of the Latin Vulgate (from the late 4th century)
A 'return' to the teachings of Jesus and His Apostles and the Prophets. Salvation by grace through faith alone. If we add 490 years for the month of Elul (Return) we would end up in October of 2007 A.D. What this means is that the preparation period for the Fall RETURN is coming to an end and the fulfillment of the Feast of Trumpets could come very soon, a.k.a. the First Resurrection.
One way to describe the Seasons is by their purpose:
SPRING = SALVATION - Jesus the Lamb of God - Emmanuel (God with us)
SUMMER = SANCTIFICATION - the Holy Spirit - Convicts of Sin, Righteousness, and Judgement.
FALL = GLORIFICATION - We receive immortality (glorified bodies) and we are ever with the Lord.
Another way to view the Seasons is from the viewpoint of the bride:
SPRING = SALVATION - Jesus the Bridegroom is with us, therefore we Feast but we do not Fast
SUMMER = SANCTIFICATION - The Bridegroom is absent so we fast, we watch, we wait, we prepare (purchase oil) for that day.
FALL = GLORIFICATION - we long for the day the Bridegroom returns with a shout and we are rejoined as we celebrate the renewed Season of Feasting at the Bridal Supper of the Lamb.
