Orthopedic Surgery - Can dead bones live?
God Knows...The Church needs Orthopedic surgery of supernatural proportions.
What does Ezekiel 37 and the valley of dry bones have to do with the Spirit-filled Church of Ephesians? I am glad you asked.
In our passage in Ezekiel 37, there are three stages of restoration leading a valley full of dry bones to become a mighty army standing and ready for battle.
In our passage in Ezekiel 37, there are three stages of restoration leading a valley full of dry bones to become a mighty army standing and ready for battle.
First God says to Ezekiel
- MADE ALIVE "Prophesy to the dead bones, that they will live. Prophesy to the bones?? (the skeleton is the foundation of the human body).
- BUILT UPON/FITTED TOGETHER -Declare that sinews and tendons will come upon them to connect the bones and providing strength.
- BUILT TOGETHER Prophesy 'skin'* to come and cover the skeleton and the mechanical elements of the body Giving honor to all the 'less presentable' body parts by covering them. The largest organ by far in the natural body is the skin.
- BREATH- Prophesy to the Wind (Ruach) come and bring the breath (Ruach) of God into these lifeless forms.
An interesting side note, it did not say that any of these bones are broken.
As in the physical body of Jesus, no bones were broken... a requirement if He was to present Himself as the Passover lamb.
Now let's look at the Church as pictured in Ephesians 2:20-22
- MADE ALIVE you are no longer strangers and foreigners (no longer dry bones) but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,
- BUILT UPON You have been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, (the 'bones' (structure, framework) of men long dead) Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone; in whom
- FITTED TOGETHER the whole building, being fitted together (framed or joined together) grows into a holy temple* in the Lord,
- BUILT TOGETHER you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit* (BREATH) (pnuema) Strongs #4151.
The Body of believers is described using as an analogy to a building here in Ephesians. But if we look at the specific building it mentions, namely the temple (or tabernacle) it becomes even more interesting when looking at the passage in Ezekiel because, in step three, Ezekiel prophesies skin to come and cover the 'bones' of this skeleton man. In Exodus 26 it describes the layers of animal skin to be laid over this skeleton, if you will, of the tabernacle or tent of meeting.
“You shall also make a covering of ram skins dyed red for the tent, and a covering of badger skins above that.
Exodus 26 describes a structure of what, could be seen as the 'bones' of the tabernacle, each upright board is set in a socket and each board has a tenon so they could all be bound together.
“And for the tabernacle you shall make the boards of acacia wood, standing upright... ...Two tenons shall be in each board for binding one to another.
Doesn't that remind you of the sinews of Ezekiel's passage binding all the bones together at their joints?
The tabernacle of Moses was only a copy of what exists in Heaven.
Heaven's dream was always that God (by His Spirit) would tabernacle (inhabit) the One New Man since the beginning.

*The Scripture even says, "Or do you not know that your body is the temple (Tabernacle, 'tent of meeting' or 'tent of presence' from the OT) of the Holy Spirit* who is in you, whom you have from God,
*there is the word Pneuma again, Strongs # 4151
So is there hope for the Church? which can be full of dead men's bones, can they live again?
Read Ezekiel 37 again and apply it to your situation today... the Lord is asking you, son or daughter.
